Primordial Chaos

Chaos: A state of matter and will above all that is fertile with possibilities, the void from which order and greatness were born.

Alright, alright. I am heavily choking on my words at the beginning of the season about my Lobos. Everyone had written them off since we're the 3rd youngest team in the country, only one senior and 2 juniors....but holy shit. These guys are AMAZING. Ro and his 3 point shots are something else. That kid is on fire and seems to stay that way.

So, if you haven't had me tell you a million times, as of today, for the first time in almost 11 years, the Lobos are a nationally ranked team. We went from not being on the top 25 last WEEK, AKA not ranked, to being #19 in country THIS WEEK. On the AP poll we jumped from 35 to 19 and from the coaches poll we jumped from 27 to 19. That is so damn awesome!

I've been lurking and posting on a lot of basketball forums...and I mean a lot. 17 of them currently open in my Firefox window that is ONLY for basketball stuff. Anyways, the general consensus is "where the fuck did these Lobos come from?". Some people didn't even know the state had a Div I team. I kinda don't blame them on that one. People who were FAR more harsh about this year's team than I was, including a lot of sports writers, were choking pretty hard on what they'd said about us before. That was interesting to read and very amusing. I think we've stunned pretty much everyone. We were front page sports news in a few places too.

The Heels are also ranked, they're at #10 on both polls. So awesome job for both teams, I hope both go to the Big Dance. I think the Lobos can hang with the big boys this year and play some good ball, regardless of when they get outed. I think they're good, but with Kansas, Syracuse and even the Heels in the running, I don't think we can take them. Though I would totally love to see the Heels and the Lobos go at it, despite feeling very conflicted. :P

So today I took my French final, which was stressful and I almost threw up mid-test because the calamari I had for lunch was, uh, not good. I  broke into a sweat too and got dizzy for like 15 minutes. Anyways, it's done it's over I can relax. The worst case scenario is a B. That's the lowest my grade can drop to. I'm hoping it stays an A, but man, being sick was no bueno during the test. A lot of things went crappy today, but I did pretty well at keeping my head up and trying to not stress it since I had that final. Today was brutal, but had three high points: a special email, Lobos got ranked 19th....and.....

I currently have my tickets for the next 6 Lobos games. Section 26 has spread into section 26 and 27 because of how well we're doing. More students are showing up to see these guys play. I'm in 27, and really I have awesome seats for all the games. Considering I didn't get to choose, I'll take it. First game up is Wed the 16th and I will be there being fucking ridiculous. Tomorrow I'm going by the bookstore to get some team spirit stuff, like a giant foam paw and maybe a shirt or a hat. I will be there in the Pit as they play, and you have no idea just how excited I am. There's a game Saturday too, and I will be there being rowdy and ridiculous. The game on Saturday is being broadcast on TV, on the mtn, which is the mountain west's sports channel. If you have DirecTV anywhere in the US, you have that channel, it's 616. For those of you not on DTV, frowny face, you'll have to find a feed online. However, they also show games on Versus and CBS college sports, and I'm pretty sure damn near every provider cable and satellite carries those. I only mention this for those of you looking to see if I embarrass myself on TV or want to cheer on the Lobos. Pretty sure there is a much larger number of the former.

I am so excited you can't even imagine. Plus I'm in the generally insane student section, so I won't be making an ass of myself alone. The Pit is seen as one of the loudest and most hostile places for an away team to play, and I'm gonna make it a little more so.

FYI: The Pit is called so because it is built inside a 37 foot deep pit. They built the roof, then dug a giant hole and put the arena in it. So it's actually underground. Only UNM would decide that the basketball teams should go play in a giant hole in the ground.

I clear my mind here, basically. It's my mental toilet.

My definition of chaos up above describes me rather well. Fertile with possibilities and a future source of order and greatness...I'll get there eventually. This is me documenting parts of my journey.

And it's about to get interesting....
